First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone that helped contribute to Lip Glosserie being what it is today. These past two years, I've managed to meet loyal and enthusiastic customers and supporters all over the country - Los Angeles, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Chicago, St. Louis, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, and of course, Austin! It has been an amazing experience and fulfilling, both professionally and mentally.
But here's the rub. I am now woefully disorganized. I am, as they say, a hot mess.
But it's 2015! It's a New Year! So, not as a resolution (because I'm really not the resolution-type), but more as a professional goal, I am doing my best to be organized this year.

After years of working almost 100% on my phone, laptop, and iPad, I've come to the realization that I really need to go back to paper. While working solely with technology may have worked before, now that I have this business in addition to two others and a 2-year-old hurricane, I have found that things just slip out of my consciousness. It's not that I forget, because I'll remember them late at night, usually when I'm trying to actually go to sleep and don't have light or a pad of paper to write on. It really is that things just slip away as soon as I get an email or a Facebook alert or an online sale or the dinner starts burning or my son starts demanding ice water. So... I have now become consumed with the world of planners. This dovetails nicely with my well-developed (and in my husband's opinion, over-developed) addiction to stationery and generally pretty things. I have spent the last month learning all about the new generation of planners, the world's most coveted (and extremely expensive) planners, online shops that sell stickers, everything about washi tape, and how to turn organizing into a decorating dream come true. |
You're probably sitting there, shaking your head at me. And, I don't blame you. This rabbit hole I've dived into probably wouldn't work for you. But here's the thing, it's working for me. For whatever reason, by spending more time on organizing, it's actually making me more organized. I've cleaned up my desk and my office. I've been better at keeping up with social media. I'm more focused when I spend time with my son. And overall, I'm just more relaxed. So, I'm curious. What do you do to stay on top of everything? I'd love to get more tips and insight into how I can improve my process! |
